interface II

So we're into the sixth version of my blog after the last version hung around for a year or so.

Now, a bit of info on this image. This photo was taken one lovely spring afternoon, featuring the iconic Old Well from the UNC Chapel Hill campus. I would like to think of this image as a tribute to my time in UNC Chapel Hill, the awesome friends I made and the memories I now hold dear.

A milestone in my life indeed.

I've dropped the tagboard cos its useless and taking eons to load. But thanks to Angela who helped me set it up, I still do like and will miss the pink interface.

So yeah, it's the sixth one you fellas!

Yours.

vics first day
It is coming to the slow but steady realisation that the people closest to me are all starting work, embarking on a new phase in their lives, while I am sorta still in the middle of my undergrad education. I am not complaining of course, uni's a blast, but you can't help but now feel a little left behind when everyone is starting a professional career.

Vic's now a Scientific Officer.
Hani's a soon to be post grad.
Yvonne, Jiaxin, Peiwen all becoming teachers.
Jess' already a teacher, aka early childhood educator.
Nev's a sign on.
And all the lovely auditors in the Big Four.
And many others too.

Funny when you look back at our rv nj days and looking at us now. How we used to slog through the school days with our little jokes and afternoons at jec or kap. Time is a funny mirror seperating then and now.

We've all grown up. so much. Yet, some part of us never change, the laughter we share, the crazy antics we still find ourselves engaging in, things that define our friendship.

I. Love. the simple things in life like sitting at the void deck with both of you, almost by coincidence, talking about primary school and your future careers as the rain torrentially poured beyond us. the lazy afternoon at the technoedge with you and you, amazed at your dynamic character that has been the fire of our friendship since the high school days and your amazing impersonation of a friend we thought we had. your simple sms which reminded me that i have totally forgotten about you, but you totally haven't forgotten me. the utter surprise which landed us in the night safari, chasing my sinus away. meeting you out of no where, in the train at raffles place, sharing your concerns which i totally appreciate and knowing our friendship stands tall till today. laughing at how we both puked so badly the day after zouk. how you remembered our personal joke back in the army, 2 years on. your msn message from chiang mai. your msn message from korea.

I. Love. the simple things in life and the countless 'you's who made it all the better for me.

florence
This is one of the best sunsets I've ever and, I am quite sure, I'll ever see.

Located at the South Bank of the Arno River (also known as the Oltrarno, literally meaning the other side of the Arno), Piazza Michelangelo is known not just for its bronze copy of Michelangelo's David, but also for the most captivating sunsets.

The bridge in the foreground is the well-known Ponte Vecchio, the landmark symbol of Florence, lined with goldsmiths since the 16th century.

The photos were taken at around 9pm, which is when the sun goes beneath the horizon in summer. The walk up and down the small hill where Piazza Michelangelo sits on is equally charming as well, dotted with small cosy bars and restaurant, with an ambience to kill, which would really give Holland Village a run for its money.

Okay. At this rate, I need 1000 entries to show you guys what I've got. But the photos are amazing - things you would only see on TV or read in the occasional National Geographic. Italy is so rich in history, it sometimes makes you feel so small in what seems like an eternity of time.

Perhaps next entry I'll show y'all the non-touristy photos, cos these are the stuff you do not really get to see in the mass media anyway. Also is the beauty of the simple life, which captures me each time I find a pocket of normality we often take for granted. In fact, moments I remember most from the trip are the simple ones - sunset at Piazza Michelangelo in Florence, late afternoon strolling along the narrow streets in Venice, dinner of kebabs and coke while watching silly italian gameshows in our place at Turin and brunch in our Dubai apartment watching DVDs amongst others.

In other news, Glenda Chong chopped her beautiful tresses (why oh why?!) and I'm thankful to be on the Dean's List.

I know y'all have been waiting for photos, but when I have simply no idea how 2000+ photos can ever go onto this page. Perhaps I'll make a highlights montage soon, but that would have to wait. Wait because I have been busy (and rather hastily) filling up my calender and now I'm packed till next weekend. Meeting friends up, catching up on movies - you know, all the stuff that summer's made for.

If there's one thing to say about the trip, it would be that backpacking's seriously more than meets the eye (but then again, what in the world isn't?), besides seeing the world, you see yourself better and you appreciate home more. And, if you have survived naples and milan, you can go into any ferragamo or boss or dkny shop here and demand for good service. Okay, that's two things.

I received my results when I was fast asleep in Dubai, cos it was 5am there when they were released. Hani was bestowed the bearer of results. Good chance on getting on to the Dean's List so I'm keeping my fingers crossed on that.

Vic is finally officially employed with a hospital doing cancer research, so we all very happy cos it was her choice job anyway (with a good pay I must add). So congrats and yay!

Hani is probably pursuing Masters which is also a very good choice, which means we can have meals at the new Deck when it reopens this August.

Okay that's all for an update. I wanna sleep now.
