interface II

So we're into the sixth version of my blog after the last version hung around for a year or so.

Now, a bit of info on this image. This photo was taken one lovely spring afternoon, featuring the iconic Old Well from the UNC Chapel Hill campus. I would like to think of this image as a tribute to my time in UNC Chapel Hill, the awesome friends I made and the memories I now hold dear.

A milestone in my life indeed.

I've dropped the tagboard cos its useless and taking eons to load. But thanks to Angela who helped me set it up, I still do like and will miss the pink interface.

So yeah, it's the sixth one you fellas!

Yours.

There's something fascinating about fireworks that enthralls me. It could be the magnificence of it all. And it also could be that it only lasts a moment too short, like many good things in this world.
And so with this, I camped out at this year's fireworks festival. The pictures speak for themselves.

just the right combination, high and low

a premature prelude to ephemeral grandeur

glowing sperms ?
These 3 pics above were caught on the 1st night. Camped out that night with junhan, whom was with me at the NDP preview the night before. Many thanks to him, we got VIP tickets for that preview. Anyway that meant we caught fireworks 2 nights in a row. He appreciates silly things as i do, and thats perhaps why we are such good friends despite the distance in space and time that seperate us these days. But thats another story for another day.

dazzling in gold
The afore picture was taken a week later, when victoria very candidly agreed to watch the show with me. It was the only nice pic i thought i captured that night. To me, its simply majestic to see this explosion to gold. Its rich and left me in awe.

a moment of fugacious magnificence
And this? The last week of the festival. This, I feel, is the best picture I have taken the whole festival and it's currently my wallpaper on my desktop. The sky is clear of smoke, and the mixture of fireworks, big and small, culminated well.

And from it all, the whole experience was overwhelming. The only time people dun complain when they see their money (taxpayers money mind you), yes their own money, burn up in ashes.

And to Junhan and Victoria, many thanks for doing the stupid things i do and just being there made me happy. You needn't be there, but you did and i appreciate it.

And it has taught me that beauty is only but within a moment. Fugacious. Ephemeral. And like many things in life, this split-second splendour, if not caught on camera, would only remain in memory. And memory only wanes with time.
Which is why i love taking photos so much. With friends, of objects, a memory. People don't usually get this, but time freezes for that instant. Preserved in its glory, for yours to keep, forever. And when memories fade and disappear into the graveyard of time, only these pictures will remain to tell a time that once existed.
Who's to say where we will be in 10 or 20 years? Even as i flip through my photobooks today, i do smile and take a moment to recapture that moment, the essence of that shot, the story behind those smiles.
Looking back in time never makes me happy. It is inevitably tinged with a little sadness. Sadness that that split moment is lost to time and never to return. But on a brighter note, it keeps me optimistic that I have these memories to keep and savour, in permanence.

I never intended to post this entry tonight, i had other stuffs in mind that i wanted to blabber about. I shall leave that for tmr.

And as the night leads us deeper into its realm,
I'm just gald i have my jazz music on,
coffee at hand,
and you
on my maiden voyage of words,
this very first day
of a new journey.

gnite yall
