interface II

So we're into the sixth version of my blog after the last version hung around for a year or so.

Now, a bit of info on this image. This photo was taken one lovely spring afternoon, featuring the iconic Old Well from the UNC Chapel Hill campus. I would like to think of this image as a tribute to my time in UNC Chapel Hill, the awesome friends I made and the memories I now hold dear.

A milestone in my life indeed.

I've dropped the tagboard cos its useless and taking eons to load. But thanks to Angela who helped me set it up, I still do like and will miss the pink interface.

So yeah, it's the sixth one you fellas!

Yours.

Is it just me, or is life only but a state of ambivalence?

This is all too puzzling, this existence we find ourselves in. Perhaps I think too much, but if we cease to do so, are we not leading a life not worth learning, appreciating, loving and ultimately living?

While life is one meandering road of struggles, life is too, a journey with much to love and smile about. It's amazing how my life has worked out to teach me this: just as it takes two hands to clap, we co-exist with the constant bombardment of antitheses only for us to be thankful of what we have in life.

Good can never be made known or distinctive, if there isn't evil (or the lesser good) on its opposite end.

There is a parallel thought in my head now questioning the purpose of this entry, which in fact I have no reason why. Perhaps this was meant to be made starkingly clear to me in the midst of all the varying, contesting, sometimes debatable emotions and attitudes that I have of life and the people around me.

When will I ever get a grip on life the way some people apparent are? I wonder if people even think about such things, or am I the only fool who does. But I stand firm on this: how can you live without knowing what living is all about, the reasons why and the paths to choose?

And as for me, I'm always learning, faulting and learning all over again. Life will always be for me, a state of ambivalence - one to struggle with, ponder about and keeping me busy in moments of solitude.

Carolyn had only planned for a 1-day trip to see the fair in R aleigh, but we were spontaneous and I ended up spending the weekend at her place, where I got to see the countryside. A very nice weekend of new experiences indeed.

For you, I'd wait 'til kingdom come.
Until my day, my day is done.
And say you'll come, and set me free.
Just say you'll wait, you'll wait for me.

I love:

The orange sunset cast on the HDB flats as you walk along pavements, strolling as the uncle and auntie from the provision store keep their wares for the day.

The breath of the new year, optimistic and hopeful.

The enormous raintrees leaves rustling and swaying in the wind.

The humid evening breeze caressing your cheeks.

All that reminds me of home.

Sometimes, the flaws we pick on others and often reflections of the exact flaws we possess ourselves.

Yet, we thrive on them.

It's snowing at Chapel Hill!
But too bad we're just about to leave for the mountains, a 3 hour drive away from campus. It has been snowing there so I hope to catch the snow covered wonderland.

Catch ya back on Monday.

This evening, after a reception with the Dean and the various profs, each department prof brought us out for dinner. It was great chatting and seeing a different side to A/P H iggits.

Some videos I took at the match.

Here's a prematch scene, it's wild and exhilarating!

And here's a short clip of 'em scoring. We're the ones in white.

Sitting here, at my desk, in front of the laptop and on the other side of the world, I sometimes can't help but just wonder (and feeling amazed at) what and how things transpired which sent me packing all the way here.

I probably think too much sometimes, but it is probably the only part of me that's still the same old me, in the midst of new surroundings, new systems and new people. I am glad to be here of course, but I suspect an equal part of me is still with people back in our sunny island - some more than others.

But I have long accepted that it is something I'll have to grapple with, and I'm doing that well, I just needed an avenue of expression cos there ain't anyone here I can bear my thoughts to. Yet another insidious way of reminding me of home.

But truly, home is where the heart is, whatever way you want to read it. It is a nice place I go to where is warm and snuggly, to be reminded of the countless 'you's and the great You above.

With that, my batteries are always recharged to appreciate and enjoy each day that comes my way.

So here's the first peek into my lovely campus, which I really think is an amazingly beautiful and tranquil one.

There is a shop called "P enang" which serves up M alaysian food. Some stuff are good but the ice k acang really has nuts in it. Boo.

Well I decided to do a DC collage since I have some time. The monuments are rather breathtaking, and especially so in winter.

All water bodies featured (except the fountain infront of the W hite House) are actually frozen.

My room is more than half done, and some remnance of home is creeping in.

Arriving into North C arolina on Sunday (on the smallest plane I've ever taken in my life - 3 seats each row), we were pretty much tired and exhuasted from our city hopping lifestyle. The next few days saw us getting admin stuff settled, getting our rooms cleaned and furnished, and getting a normal life back.

I beginning to like this campus, and the community which grew out of this establishment. The campus is sprawling, relaxed and full of foliage. Weather is simply fine but I heard it's gonna get colder. School spirit here is incomparable.

I've yet to taken any photos but everything's beautiful here. And I do apologise for the lack of collages, I've been too busy to make them and I do not think I'll have time to make more. So just head on to my f acebook to check photos out.

But here's one for you. The lovely sunset over the reflecting pool (which has all frozen up) leading towards the L incoln Memorial in W ashington DC.

I hope everyone's having a good start to 2008, I hope mine is too.

Yours,
ym

Hey everybirdie!

Its 7:44am here in Washington DC and here's a quickie, I mean, a quick update on my escapades. We arrived in DC after a 4 hour bus ride to the capitol of the US of A, and man do I love this city - clean, efficient, (rather) safe, less messy - everything New York isn't. Not that I hate NY though, I just still can't figure what makes it tick yet.

We visited Georgetown yesterday. Am I hearing "wtf is georgetown?". Yes, I had the same reaction too. But Georgetown is a nice quaint shopping/eating belt with almost every mid-high brand available. I love the quaint plus we-have-everything combination.

Today, we visit the main buildings and museums at the capitol before heading back to NY tmr for our flight into UNC.

Everywhere I go, I wish you guys were here with me. It sucks having such great friends you know, I miss you all no matter where I am. Don't get ne wrong, I'm not unhappy, but happiness is not exactly complete without you guys with me.

p/s: photos will prolly be up jan 7th when i move into hostel.
