interface II

So we're into the sixth version of my blog after the last version hung around for a year or so.

Now, a bit of info on this image. This photo was taken one lovely spring afternoon, featuring the iconic Old Well from the UNC Chapel Hill campus. I would like to think of this image as a tribute to my time in UNC Chapel Hill, the awesome friends I made and the memories I now hold dear.

A milestone in my life indeed.

I've dropped the tagboard cos its useless and taking eons to load. But thanks to Angela who helped me set it up, I still do like and will miss the pink interface.

So yeah, it's the sixth one you fellas!

Yours.

I wonder if you can spot my picture in this mural but its quite obvious lah, cos the system conveniently highlighted mine with a yellow border. And if you still can't locate where it is, I am sitting right on where Pandan Reservoir roughly is, how apt huh, considering RV roots.

Anyway its a photo of me and vic at the Carrera Markets in Brisbane. I just spoke to Vic, she utterly enjoyed San Francisco Pride and is currently back in UCLA starting her lessons yesterday.

And to the right of our photo, I've submitted my grandma's photo as well. She looked really happy in this one, and there is light and life in her eyes that cancer has since took away. That was taken in Tasmania end of 2005.

Perhaps y'all should see the enlarged photos. Here.

before v tea
I made a mistake in my collage. It should really read "The day before the day before Vic left". The date was 20th June 2006, and when Nev msged me a "Happy 20/06/2006!" I was wondering if he had been on somethin when he texted me. I soon realised that it was a mirrored date, as in 20062006.

Nuff of this nonsense. Jon, Vic and I met up for a simple lunch at Sakae and then hung out at where else but V Tea Room. The pictures pretty much speak for themselves.
v tea

I have tonnes of pictures from the great night out at Dbl O, and also Vic's farewell at the airport. But all akan datang, so patience.

I can't seem to be inspired to write anything worthwhile these days. And till then, never give up on the vigour in pursuing life and the meaning of it all.

And so, Jackie, Yvonne and I brought the girls from University of North Carolina out to explore Singapore on their summer program here.
1
This is Golden Landmark Shopping Centre, and one thing in common is, it was all our first visit here. Honestly, I never knew this place ever existed, almost like it was Ctrl+C from some neighbouring country and Ctrl+V here. Our new friends (L to R) , Liz and Elby.
7
Liz and I somewhere near Arab Street. Liz is quite special cos she loves sports and is always game for a new experience. I love her forthright demeanor and and down to earth attitude. I do not think we find many Singaporean girls like that.
Elby is very pleasant and she is of Saudi descent. She has a sincerity that is quite the opposite of what we think of Americans.
3

Yes, we brought them to do what Singaporeans do best, soccer betting, legalised of course. It was England vs Paraguay that night and most of the girls bought England to win, which they won of course, all $6.87 of it.
13
One interesting conversation came up as I asked them why they chose Singapore for summer program. Quite candidly, they admitted that the only reason why they came on this trip was because it is free for UNC students.
They had no idea where Singapore was and even had to look up the world map to see where we are sitting. Funny how far we've come as a nation, yet still a stranger to the world.
17
Thai Express for dinner. I asked them the biggest misconception they had about Singapore and they told me that they were so mistaken when they thought Singapore was like Indonesia or Thailand, and did not expect the city to be so vibrant and modern. Well at least they did not think we are a province in China.
18
Afterwhich we chilled out at Harry's at Holland V, and watching the England match at the same time. The predominant expat crowd at Harry's made the atmosphere really warm as many rooted for England.
The night ended off on the right note as we adjourned from Harry's to where else but Wala Wala to rock on with Shirlyn.
25
The tour guides. And we all agreed that it was one of the most well spent Saturdays we've had in ages.

you'd probably never see the tears behind the person who desires things to work out. for he hides them, so it never becomes an obstacle - one hurdle less to worry about.

My yesterdays are all boxed up and neatly put away. Every now and then, they come to mind to remind me of a past I can smile about, I frown at, and some I rather not be reminded of at all.

Well things were always so sweet and innocent then but things are very different now. We've all grown up and collected baggages along the way - some we carry more willingly than others. Sometimes we wish we could change something in the past, but we are too clever to know that that is never possible. So we live in the shadows of these actions or inactions, whether we like it or not and know that we can only look into the future for that is the only way to go.

Life is like a river, and a river never passes through the same destination twice. This, as some say, is the closest metaphor to the meaning of life. So never look back.

But what happens when it is the past that comes looking for us? A mistake, a regret, a past that haunts. It is all too easy to say that we look forward, but sometimes, we are forced to look back.

So I take my words back. In life, always have one foot in the past, and the other towards the future. For the past will serve as a direction to the future. Just as how we are made to walk, one foot has always to be behind another, so that the foot from behind (the past) pushes forth to make way forward. Have two feet in line, and we find ourselves standing still.

I believe God gave us memory for a purpose, so that past happiness or regrets serve a greater purspose and larger force in life, once we look back on them.

Be like a river that flows
Silent in the middle of the night
Not fearing the dark of the night,
Reflecting any star that is in the sky.
And if the sky fills with clouds,
Clouds are water, like the river, so
Reflect them too with no regret In the silent depth.

We headed down to Cafe Iguana last night for some Mexican yummies.
1
Thank goodness it rained the whole afternoon, which created the nicest coolest temperature for the evening as we dined by the riverside. The food was sedaply delicious but stay off the shredded chickens y'all, the chicken meat was tougher than tough, and Junhan had to gnaw his way through his meal unfortunately.
2
But if there is anything else in the pictures you have to notice (besides how gorgeous we all looked that night), it definitely has to be the margaritas. Cafe Iguana serves up the most wicked selection of tequilas and margaritas, and MAN, they serve huge margaritas too. Just look at the ones we're drinking. It's darn big, trust me. Big enough to keep goldfishes in them. Just remember, half price for drinks before 9pm.

Notice how Shujun got conveniently left out in the bottom left photo of the collage above. Good job, Vic.
3
It was all a very fulfilling night, yes I meant stomachs full and very filling.

Stars shining down upon us.

This, ladies and gentlemen, is Wala Wala.
one
Of course, some of you probably know that already, and some of you, well, are oblivious to the its existence. Most Thursdays nights, and some Saturday nights, we'd be there, with Shirlyn and the band and lots of fried chicken wings.

And you probably already know too, that we always have a ball of a time, cos the Heineken's cheap and cold, and the setlist almost always rocks the roof off. And we often wonder why the waiters can't spell Heineken properly - its either Heneken or some scribblings that only Wala waiters can decipher.
two

Mom says I go drinking every week. Very bad. Secondhand smoke. Even worse. Spoils your kidneys and lungs, she says.

The thing is, I do not go there specifically to drink per se. Or to breathe in the secondhand smoke. These are merely (or gravely) the by products when I go listen to the band, chill out with friends and have a great night.

See, it is almost like driving downtown. By wanting to reach your destination, you breathe in a little carbon monoxide as your car stops and perhaps even wear out your tyres a little. But are these intended? Absolutely not. The goal is downtown, the by products are the inhalation and wearing out. Am I making sense?

I picked that up from Philosophy by the way, which I am not majoring in.

Okay, time to chao. No, I didn't mean to spell chaos, like mayhem. But chao, like, chao!
