interface II

So we're into the sixth version of my blog after the last version hung around for a year or so.

Now, a bit of info on this image. This photo was taken one lovely spring afternoon, featuring the iconic Old Well from the UNC Chapel Hill campus. I would like to think of this image as a tribute to my time in UNC Chapel Hill, the awesome friends I made and the memories I now hold dear.

A milestone in my life indeed.

I've dropped the tagboard cos its useless and taking eons to load. But thanks to Angela who helped me set it up, I still do like and will miss the pink interface.

So yeah, it's the sixth one you fellas!

Yours.

25th April 2008 - Last day of classes.
What an apt way to end the semester with great friends by your side, in front of the Old Well, with the Clefs singing the unofficial anthem of the collage. Shucks this is making me emo!

Credit goes to miss grace!

The big broad studying desks, the solemn environment, the countless students, the laptop glaring back at me - all very familiar aspect signalling to me that the finals are impending, only now I'm halfway around the world (but still, as always, trying to study).

The spring semester ended with a blast on Friday and what a liberation it was. Coupled with the awesome weather, it was, possibly, one of the happiest days of my life. Strolling across the lawns, lying down on the luscious grass while food and bands blared out all around us made me realize that though this is the end, nobody would leave without a bang.

I saw the Singaporeans out in full force and I didn't know why I was filled with such a genuine happiness seeing them. Not that I don't usually feel glad seeing them, but perhaps the realization that we've made it through the semester together elevated my emotions.

Spending the night chatting away, I count myself lucky to be in the midst of such great company and new found friends I know will last a lifetime.

It was a happiness I never quite felt before - one etched so firmly into my mind that I'll hardly ever forget this day.

* *

Summer is once again creeping up into our lives. Lazy days in the humid heat, flip flops on the streets, long dinners that stretch till late - all that I love summer for.

I wonder how life would be like as we move on from this lovely place, and how our lives would ever cross back home.

Summer is always about possibilities and some hope leftover from Spring, and maybe that's why I love it so much - it allows me to dream with less expectation of what is to come. And perhaps, we don't feel so sad this way.

This is a tribute of thanks to those who made it happen.

So for once in my life, I celebrate 36 hours of April 23rd.
Slide1
Falling for the surprise celebration at the union as I prepared to finish my essay. I was really touched on many levels - first: that they conspired this cunning plan, second: the fact that they bought my favorite cake from Weaver St Market (white choc citrus cheesecake...woohoo), third: making all those collages, and lastly: taking the initaitive to liase with people from home to send their collages over.

Then the following night, the rest gave me another surprise which I fell for stupidly again despite loopholes glaring into my face. Coming home from a dance performance, I found these fine fellas hiding in my room with a cake in the center. I really loved the "Have a heel of a birthday" cake cos it just symbolizes the reason we were brought together.

Special thanks to Vic n moon who did the awesome video and getting shirlyn to sing! And Amy who sent her audio wishes. Phonecalls and emails which mean so much to me from people back home, some calling twice (thanks.).

I would always remember this birthday not because it was in a different environment, but because I had been given so much by people who touched me with their sincerity and heartfelt words (and actions too). And to them I give my thanks and gratitude.

Click here for Jurong Lake District Video

When I saw this video for Jurong Lake District, I was more impressed than skeptical, as I usually am for urban developments in Singapore. (It takes a million years to load but its worth it I tell you.) Mixed land use, pedestrainization, waterfront features, seamless connection by foot or train - all aspects of new urbanism happening at my doorstep.

What I really liked:

The seamless connection from the ticket level of Jurong East MRT Station to the adjacent transport/retail building to the existing town centre to the Lakeside Village where the current Science Centre now stands.

The re-use and conversion of the Science Centre building into part of the Lakeside Village.

The fact that everything new blends in, complements and synthesizes with the current buildings.

What I didn't understand:
The presence a hot air balloon the video which I am definitely sure will not be a feature in real life.

I can't believe it - Jurong Lake District - this is my home.

This is what I've learnt, felt and experienced this week that will, I hope, stay with me till I leave this existence.

"Naked came I out of my mother's womb,
and naked shall I return thither:
the Lord gave, and the Lord hath taken away;
blessed be the name of the Lord."
Job 1:21

I am finally beginning to understand this and the meaning it has for me. And for that, I will live to praise His name forever.

She was really, all I lived my life for.

Truth be told, I used to believe in her more than I believed in God. For she was the living hope for me, who gave so much, and whose love I can never repay.

And all she wanted, was nothing for herself, and only the best for us.

I still miss her, and often so much.

mariahs no 18 hit

Remember
this? Not me kissing Mooncake, but Mariah.
Mariah has done it, yet again.

She officially surpasses Elvis with 18 No. 1 hits on Billboard's Hot 100 list, only falling behind The Beatles who has 20 No. 1 hits. Well at least she's the female singer with the most No. 1s ever.

Nothing's stopping this lady huh?

E= is out April 15th.

Somewhere in the distance, the end is in sight.

I'm in my penultimate month in the States, and what a journey this has been. Post-sem plans are slowing forming into shape and I can finally say I'm heading home "next month". As much as I am looking forward to stepping onto SQ37 for my flight back home, I am well aware of how every memory here will be missed when I'm back home.

This is all like a dream to me, an illusion that will never happen or replicate itself ever again. How the greater forces have put together this group of Singaporeans in a beautiful campus with experiences to make and hold.

But till I reach home, there are tonnes of assignments to be done and a NCAA finals to win.
